Cultural Adaptation

HolaDoctor has set the standard for culturally adapting content and programs for Hispanics in the U.S. and abroad. We use our deep understanding of the Hispanic healthcare consumer to develop applications, programs and websites that are much more culturally-relevant, engaging, and effective than they would be if there were simply translated.

HolaDoctor has been at the forefront of scientific research demonstrating culturally-appropriate health and wellness programs. In one study, a culturally-appropriate weight loss program was fully twice as effective as a comparable, bilingual program.

Our Cultural Adaptation Process is carefully designed to identify the areas of highest potential impact, i.e. most “bang for the buck”, for our clients. Our proprietary five-step cultural adaptation process includes:

  • Clearly defining the short-, as well as longer-, term business and communications objectives of the content or program
  • Determining the target audience, e.g. regional vs. national, domestic vs. international
  • Reviewing the entire body of material for should, or doesn’t need, to be culturally adapted
  • Applying HolaDoctor’s proprietary Cultural Adaptation Review Process to selected material across four domains: a) language, b) beliefs/values, c) examples, and d) look and feel
  • Providing recommendations and editorial guidance back to the client

Only once the entire cultural adaptation process is completed is the material submitted for translation.
